The Violation of Algerian Women’s Rights under French Colonialism – The Algerian Woman as a Case Study -A Socio-Historical Study-

Abstract

During the French colonial period, Algerian women played an active and decisive role in the national resistance movement, performing a wide range of functions that included material and moral support as well as direct participation in revolutionary activities. In parallel, they were subjected to severe repressive policies, including torture, imprisonment, and widespread violations of their fundamental human rights. Despite this, they demonstrated remarkable resilience and maintained strict secrecy regarding revolutionary activities. They contributed in various capacities as combatants, couriers, and medical assistants.

This study aims to highlight the role of Algerian women during the War of Liberation while shedding light on the abuses committed by the French colonial authorities against them.
