Variation in the Arabic Translation of Ferdinand de Saussure’s Course in General Linguistics: The Tunisian and Iraqi Translations as a Case Study

Abstract

This study examines the variations in the translation of Ferdinand de Saussure’s Course in General Linguistics by comparing the Tunisian and Iraqi Arabic translations. It highlights the discrepancies in linguistic terminology resulting from the absence of standardization and coordination, which have led to differences in meaning as well as the emergence of certain errors and ambiguities. The study emphasizes the necessity of standardizing linguistic terminology in order to achieve more accurate scientific translation.
