Traditional Ayurvedic Practices and Their Relevance in Contemporary Society
Main Article Content
Abstract
Ayurveda is a traditional Indian system of health knowledge with a long history of practices related to diet, daily routines, personal care, herbal preparations, physical activity, and approaches to maintaining well-being. In contemporary society, interest in traditional Ayurvedic practices has expanded through wellness culture, digital media, education, tourism, and commercial health products. This paper examines the relevance of traditional Ayurvedic practices in contemporary society, focusing on historical foundations, daily routines, nutrition, herbal traditions, yoga and physical activity, self-care, preventive health, cultural identity, digital transformation, and contemporary challenges. Traditional practices can provide culturally meaningful approaches to lifestyle and self-care, particularly when adapted safely to modern circumstances. Their continued popularity also demonstrates how traditional knowledge can survive through reinterpretation and new forms of communication. However, traditional practices vary in evidence and safety, and commercial products may create risks related to quality, contamination, dosage, and interactions with medicines. The paper argues that Ayurveda remains socially relevant as a cultural and wellness tradition, while its contemporary application should be guided by appropriate evidence, safety standards, professional qualifications, and informed healthcare choices.
